Dr. Phlox in Star Trek: Enterprise

John Billingsley stars as Enterprise's resident doctor, Phlox, an eccentric alien with an oblique sense of humor and a fascination with humanity, in UPN's drama series STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE. 

Billingsley was born in Media, Penn. to a family that moved frequently in his early years. When they settled in Weston, Conn., Billingsley appeared in school plays and went on to study theater at Bennington College in Vermont. Later, he moved to Seattle where his acting talents were showcased in numerous regional stage productions. In 1989, Billingsley founded Bookit, a Seattle-based theater company devoted to adapting fiction to the stage. He spent five years there directing and performing shows. He also co-founded Freehold, a Seattle acting studio.

He recently appeared in the feature film "Out of Time," opposite Denzel Washington. His other film credits include "High Crimes," "The Glass House," "White Oleander," the independent film "Breathing Hard" (which won a number of awards on the festival circuit), "I Love You To Death," "A Cinderella Story," and the upcoming independents "12 Dogs of Christmas" and "The Nickel Children." 

On television, Billingsley appeared as a series regular in "The Others" and guest starred in multiple series, including "The West Wing," "NYPD Blue," "Six Feet Under," "Judging Amy," "Stargate SG-1," "The Practice," "Arli$$," "Gilmore Girls" and "The Profiler."

His Los Angeles stage credits include productions at A Noise Within, in such plays as "The Winters Tale," "Twelfth Night," "Great Expectations" and "The Country's Wife." With L.A.'s The Actor's Gang, he performed in "Ugly's First World," and he toured in Europe with Milwaukee's Theatre X in "A History of Sexuality." He also trod the boards of the prestigious Seattle Repertory Theatre in "Nothing Sacred." He is currently producing and starring in a one-man show about the life of 19th century misanthrope Ambrose Bierce, entitled "Bitter Bierce," which will be performed in Los Angeles in late summer 2004.

Billingsley currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife, actress Bonita Friedericy, and their two cats.
